WMC BOYS SOCCER WINS 9TH STATE TITLE
GRAND LEDGE – Muskegon Western Michigan Christian was seeking its ninth MHSAA Finals boys soccer title Saturday at Grand Ledge High School. The scoring floodgates opened in the second half, and the Warriors prevailed 3-0 over Madison Heights Bishop Foley to earn a second-straight Division 4 championship and finish this fall 21-2-3. After a scoreless first half, senior Charlie Buursma took a pass from Cole DeJonge and trickled it into the net at the 35 minute, 43 second mark of the second half for the game’s first score. It was DeJonge’s 23rd assist of the season and the biggest. Tekalegn Vlasma tacked on his 25th goal of the season to make it 2-0 at the 27:03 mark with an assist from Buursma. Boys Varsity Baseball vs. West Michigan Aviation Academy
Boys Varsity BaseballThe WMC Warriors opened the 2024 baseball season with a double-header sweep of West Michigan Aviation Academy. The scores were 11-5 in game one and 8-1 in game two. Will Liggett started the season off hot in game one with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. Alex Wagenmaker also had a great game at the plate scoring two runs, walking twice and driving in three runs. Wagenmaker also got his first stolen base of the year. Sam Kuiper had a big two-run triple in the fourth inning and he scored two runs. Quint Menefee stole two bases, singled and scored a run while Max Miller added a basehit of his own. Jack Sipe contributed two runs scored on the base paths and also a bag. Max Miller was dominant on the mound going five strong innings and struck out eight batters for the win. Girls Varsity Soccer vs. Holland Christian High School
Girls Varsity SoccerTonight was a bounce back night after the early season loss to North Muskegon. Playing Division 3 Holland Christian set up to be a tough test for the young WMC team. Holland Christian saw a slight advantage in possession of the ball. It took incredibly stifling defensive work from the WMC backline and Midfield. The second half saw WMC grow more into the game connecting more and more and creating chances going forward. Finally WMC would finish a chance Brooklyn Watts did incredibly well to win the ball and find Brynn Evans who sprung Nora Pollock in on goal as the Junior forward tucked the ball home. The Warriors would have to endure some last minutes defending but the backline held well, Elaina Clapp came up huge with 9 saves on 9 shots. Girls Freshman VolleyballGame 1 vs. Union City 12-25 8-25 Game 2 vs. Ottawa Hills 25-8 25-12 Game 3 vs. Kalamazoo Loy Norrix 25-19 25-12 Had a tough start to the quad but after we got the first game jitters out we really started to find a groove. Really proud of the way the girls turned the day around after the first game. Our serving was phenomenal and a large part of our success was due to serving tough and consistently in. A great first set of games and looking forward to next week’s quad.

Girls Varsity BasketballThe Western Michigan Christain Warriors Girls' Varsity hosted Martin Public Schools. This game was a good match-up for the Warriors. Both teams started strong and the score was tied 4-4 after the first quarter. Ashley Folkema and Alia Zuidema both hit a 3-pointer in the second quarter which helped the Warriors lead 13-11 at the half. At the start of the second half, the Warriors went on a 6-0 run. Martin worked to tie the game again in the third. At the end of the third quarter, the Warriors led 25-22. Both teams battled in the fourth quarter. Martin led by two with about 2 minutes left. Ashley Folkema drove to the basket and drew the foul, resulting in a three-point play. With 8 seconds left, Alia Zuidema rebounded the ball and secured the Warrior win of 33-31. Boys Varsity BasketballWMC hosted Pentwater this Monday night and took their first win of the season with hot shooting from Senior Guard Jared Olsen leading the way for the Warriors. Olsen led all scores with 20 and was followed by Junior Guard, Caleb Tejchma, with 12. It was a slow start for the Warriors but as the game progressed their intensity increased and allowed for a small comeback from being down 7 in the 1st. With a good shooting quarter by the Warriors in the 3rd, they were able to get a lead and hold off Pentwater in the 4th. Boys Varsity BasketballThe Western Michigan Christian Boys' Basketball Team hosted Calvin Christian on Tuesday night. After winning the tip WMC was taken out of their game by full-court pressure with Calvin leading 26 to 4 after the first. After the 2nd quarter, the score was Calvin 41 and WMC 13. WMC continued to work over the next two quarters, ending the 3rd Calvin 54 and WMC 22, as Calvin kept its lead. WMC ended with a 25-point 4th quarter, and Calvin ended steady, with the final score being Calvin 73 and WMC 47. Boys Varsity BasketballThe Western Michigan Christian Boys' Basketball Team traveled to North Muskegon on Monday night. North Muskegon shot well and ended the 1st with 25 to WMC's 13. The second quarter was much the same with WMC ending the half at 26 and North Muskegon at 43. The 3rd ended with North Muskegon at 63 and WMC at 34. Final score North Muskegon 76 and WMC 45. Boys Varsity BasketballThe Western Michigan Christian Boys' Basketball Team traveled to Potters House on Wyoming Friday night. Potters House jumped out to a 19-8 lead at the end of the first and really solidified the rest of the game in the second quarter with shot-making, offensive rebounds, and strong post-play with the score 40 to 14 at the half. Girls Varsity BasketballThe Western Michigan Christian girls' varsity basketball team had their first road game after the season opener the previous night. Kalamazoo Christian started the game strongly and had a lead at the end of the first quarter. Kalamazoo Christian had a great transition basketball game, and they did a great job of passing to find an open girl. The Warriors adjusted to this transition offense and worked together to stop open shots and fast breaks. Head coach Sarah Koetsier said, "Kalmazoo had great ball pressure tonight. Boys Junior Varsity SoccerThe JV Warriors soccer team was back in action after a week of practice as they hosted the Pioneers of East Grand Rapids on Monday evening. WMC was able to find the back of the net multiple times and walk away with a 4-0 victory over a high quality program. The game flowed back and forth for the first 6 minutes until WMC was awarded a corner kick. Levi Postema (So, Muskegon) played the corner in and Luke Proctor (Fr, Grand Haven) flicked the ball towards goal where one of our three exchange students, Paco (So, Barcelona) was able to blast it into the back of the net to break the deadlock and put the Warriors up 1-0. The JV team took the first 15 minutes to get back in form and then started to find the back of the net and finished with a solid 6-0 victory over the visitors.
