Warriors Stay Unbeaten with Road Win
The Western Michigan Christian girls basketball team kept their undefeated streak alive Tuesday with a 63-29 road win over North Muskegon in non-conference action.
The Warriors used a 22-point second quarter to jump out to a 37-18 halftime lead and cruised in the second half to their ninth straight win of the season.
Taylor Folkema scored 20 points and added four steals and four rebounds to lead the Warriors, while Anna Sytsema added 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Meghan Heiss did a little bit of everything for the Warriors, scoring eight points, while dishing eight assists and swiping four steals. Allysa Eekhoff also added eight points and grabbed eight rebounds to highlight a balanced attack for WMC. Kayla Johnson added seven points.
“At times, we played well offensively and moved the ball around,” said WMC head coach Jeremy Goorman. “At other times, we forced the ball into double coverage. With only eight girls active, it was difficult to get them a break at times, but the girls battled through and picked up a nice road win.
“Now, we have an opportunity to get a couple big wins on Friday and Saturday against Manistee and Spring Lake. “
The Warriors (9-0, 4-0 Lakes Eight) will travel to Manistee (6-3, 3-1 Lakes Eight) on Friday, before a non-conference clash at Spring Lake (3-4) on Saturday at 6:45 p.m.
