Warriors Stay Perfect at 10-0
The Warriors continued their undefeated start to the season with a 50-37 win over Lakes Eight Conference foe Manistee on Friday night.
Manistee led 18-17 at the first break, but the Warriors nabbed the lead for good, 26-24, on a Meghan Heiss 3-pointer just before halftime. The longball kicked off a 14-3 run in the third quarter to give WMC a 37-27 lead heading into the final frame.
Active and effective defense by the Chippewas contributed to the competitive first half, as the Warriors lost 12 turnovers through the first two quarters.
Anna Sytsema led the way with 16 points, 11 rebounds and four steals; followed by Heiss with 15 points, nine assists and three steals.
"That shot by Meghan Heiss gave us momentum for the second half. We were able to play stellar defense and limit them to three points in the third," said WMC head coach Jeremy Goorman. "Manistee is a good defensive team that created points off our turnovers early.
"Anna Sytsema was the MVP tonight. She is playing her best basketball of the season right now."
The win improves the Warriors' record to 10-0 overall and 5-0 in Lakes Eight play. Manistee falls to 6-4 on the year and 3-2 in conference games.
WMC returns to action this evening at Spring Lake to take on the Lakers with a 6:45 p.m. tip-off time.
