Warriors drub the Norsemen
The Western Michigan Christian boys soccer team improved to 5-0-2 on the season with a 4-0 win over at North Muskegon on Friday night.
The Warriors got going early, as Andrew Rasmusen slid a ball to Charlie Alfree for a goal in the second minute of the game. In the 24th minute, Issac VanHoven crossed a ball through the box to a charging Caleb Minasian to put WMC up, 2-0.
VanHoven struck again in the second half, navigating through traffic and beating the keeper to take a commanding lead. The final goal was scored by Hayden Hubers in the 68th minute, unassisted.
“This was a very competitive game,” said WMC head coach David Hulings. “The score doesn’t look like that, but this game was a very tough win. North Muskegon will be a tough out later in the season.
“Our defense did a great job against a very organized attack. We had little margin for error. Our back line was able to shut down each counter-attack they sent against us.
“I was proud of our boys. It became much more physical than we like to play, but we are going to go against teams that play physical and we kept our cool. We were able to withstand the pressure.”
WMC returns to the pitch to host Ludington on Tuesday.
Junior varsity: WMC defeated North Muskegon 1-0 on a first-half goal by Ethan Hill. Ethan VanOrman posted the shutout for the Warriors.
