Warriors Lose First Game of Season
to Conference Foe Ludington, 2-1
The No. 3-ranked (D-4)Western Michigan Christian boys soccer team hosted Lakes Eight Conference rival and. No. 5 ranked (D-3) Ludington on Tuesday, falling to the Orioles 2-1.
The Warriors are now 5-1-2 on the season and 1-1 in the conference.
The loss was the first time this season the Warriors have given up multiple goals in a game and both came in the first half. Hayden Hubers netted WMC’s lone goal in the second half.
“Ludington really played well tonight,” said WMC head coach David Hulings. “They came out with a lot of emotion and fight. The first half, they were able to win a lot of balls and interrupt most of our attacking flow. We were not tight enough on our marks and leaving two players open was enough for Ludington to put two goals in the net.
“It was a tough first half. But, the second half was much better. We had some great attacks. Hubers did a great job finding a ball in the box to cut the lead in half, and we had our fair share of opportunities.
“I was pleased with the character we showed in the second half. I believe we were the better team in the second half, but we gave away two goals early. Ludington was just too good to score more goals on them.”
The Warriors return to play Thursday at Muskegon Catholic Central.
Junior varsity: Ludington defeated WMC 4-1. Joel McKay scored the lone Warrior goal.
