Warriors Make It to Gold Bracket Semi-Final

The Western Michigan Michigan Christian girls volleyball team opened their season at the WMVOA Scholarship Tournament on Friday.

The Warriors came away with a 3-1-1 record and a third-place finish in the Gold Division.

The Warriors defeated Thornapple Kellogg (25-16, 25-18), Hopkins (25-18, 27-26) and Saranac (25-22, 10-25, 15-13), but split with Lansing Catholic (25-14, 16-25) and lost to North Pointe Christian (25-22, 20-25, 8-15).

Meghan Heiss led the Warriors in service points with 28 and aces with eight and also added 12 kills and 21 digs. Anna Negen led the team in kills with 16, while Alisha Leffring added 11 kills and six blocks. Chloe Mitchell led the team in assists with 35 and also added three blocks.

"It was a great first day of the Warrior volleyball season at MSA Fieldhouse in Grand Rapids for the WMVOA Invitational Tournament," said WMC head coach Trent Smillie. "After graduating five seniors from last year's team, we are really starting to click together as a new team in 2018. I was very proud of the team today, especially the amount of effort and enthusiasm they showed."
