Warriors Score Walk Off Win vs. MCC
The Western Michigan Christian baseball team put together a dramatic come-from-behind win over Lakes Eight Conference rival Muskegon Catholic Central on Wednesday by a score of 6 to 5.
The Warriors trailed 5-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, but strung together five consecutive hits, capped off by a thrilling walk-off double by Jake Moser to score the game-winning run.
Michael Kamps was the winning pitcher from the mound, while Brant Zeerip pitched the first four innings for the Warriors.
Riley St. Amour pitched six innings for MCC, giving up two runs and striking out six.
Tyler VanBeek recorded three hits to lead the WMC offense from the plate, while Nick Moser, Jamo Goorman, Cam Beisel and Jake Moser each had two hits.
Max Price recorded two hits to lead the Crusaders from the plate.
“I can't remember the last time we have beaten MCC in baseball, so to string five hits together and get the walk-off was special for our guys,” said WMC head coach Chris VanHekken.
“They just kept grinding and grinding, so a win like this against MCC was great for our team.
''Brant and Michael each threw well today, and we needed them to, as they were matched against St. Amour, who did a solid job for Catholic.
''Hopefully, this will give us the confidence we need going forward toward districts.”
The Crusaders were on the verge of exacting some revenge in Game 2 of the doubleheader, but severe weather stopped the game in the fourth inning with MCC up 6-1. The game will be rescheduled for a later date.
