Warriors Propel into Districts

with 5-3 Win over Holland

The Western Michigan Christian baseball team closed out their regular season with a 5-3 win over Holland on Wednesday.

Jaxon Deur was the winning pitcher, allowing no runs over two innings of relief.

Brant Zeerip started from the mound, pitching three innings, allowing three runs, while Nathan VanderWeide pitched two innings in relief.

Tyler VanBeek, Jamo Goorman, Zeerip, Michael Kamps and Cole Crabtree each had a hit for the Warriors from the plate, while Nick and Jake Moser each had an RBI.

“Tonight was great to get a win,” said WMC head coach Chris VanHekken. “We have been playing schools over the past week and a half that we felt would really challenge us and get us prepared for districts, so to come out on top against one of these schools was great.

“Zeerip, VanderWeide and Deur split time on the mound and each of them did a great job of throwing strikes and keeping Holland off the base paths. The go-ahead run was started in the sixth inning with a lead-off single by Goorman, followed by a bunt single by Zeerip. An overthrow scored Goorman and sent Zeerip to third base. Jake Moser hit a sac fly to deep center to score Zeerip.

“I am really pleased with our effort and how smart we played tonight. Cole Crabtree had a clutch single to plate Cam Beisel in the second inning. This was Cole's first varsity hit after getting called up at the end of the season.”

The Warriors will play Holland Calvary Christian at 10 a.m. Saturday in the district semifinals at Muskegon Catholic Central High School
