Western Michigan Christian Varsity Baseball falls to Fruitport in season opener, 7-3.

Today, the Warriors got their first game of the season under their belts; having had their first two games canceled.  The Warriors started the game strong, scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning.  Fruitport came storming back scoring three runs in the top of the second inning.  The Warriors answered by scoring two runs in the bottom of the third.  Fruitport answered by scoring three in the top of the fourth and didn't look back from there, adding an insurance run in the top of the seventh.

"We knew we were going to face a tough Fruitport team which meant we were going to have to play clean baseball.  Unfortunately, we had a few base running gaffs which stopped some of our offensive momentum and a couple of untimely errors which Fruitport capitalized on.  Samuel VanOrman (Sr.) had some fantastic defensive plays in left field and I thought Sam Sipe (Jr.) and Alex Wagonmaker (Fr.) pitched very well today.  Overall, a good first game."- Coach Hill

Sam Sipe took the loss pitching 4 innings, allowing 6 hits, 6 runs, 2 earned, with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts.  Alex Wagonmaker threw 3 innings allowing 1 hit, 1 run, 0 earned, with 0 walks and 3 strike outs.

Sam Sipe had 3 hits (all singles) at 3 at bats driving in all 3 runs.  VanOrman and Sam Liggett (Sr.) added a hit a piece.

The Warriors next game is April 13 at Newaygo.
