WMCC Drops Pair to Manistee

WMCC hosted Manistee for a Lakes Eight Conference doubleheader Monday, dropping both games by scores of 12-0 and 19-6.

GAME 1: Manistee 12, WMCC 0

Manistee broke open the game with six runs in the top of the third and secured their victory with a five-run fourth inning.

The WMCC offense was led by Maria Sanocki (MCC) with two hits and Kelcea Waller (WMC) and Hannah Pell (WMC), each with one hit. Sanocki and Sophie Hawke (WMC) shared time in the circle, striking out two.

GAME 2: Manistee 19, WMCC 6

Manistee opened Game 2 with a 10-0 lead through the first two innings. WMCC closed the gap to 10-5 after three innings. Manistee added three runs in the fifth and six runs in the sixth before the game was called for darkness.

Leading the WMCC offense was Catherine Bradford-Royle (WMC) and Pell, each with two hits and one RBI. Also collecting hits were Abby Sweetman (WMC), Stephanie Weesies (WMC) and Taylor Mosher (WMC). Sweetman and Hawke split the pitching duties, striking out two.

“After some tough games last week, I was encouraged to see our offense put some runs on the board and hit the ball much harder than we did last week,” said WMCC head coach Jeff Nestell. “Manistee is a strong hitting team and had a number of timely hits. We have some work to do, but I was encouraged by what I saw today, especially two scoreless innings each from Maria and Sophie. We’re looking forward to Muskegon and Orchard View this week.”
