Warrior Track Shines at GMAA Meet

The girls had a great night Friday at the city meet. All of the relays dropped their times and hit their best times so far this year. And there were great individual performances as well.

"A high and a low all in one was when our 4x400 relay, Sarah VanderKooi, Shantele Wilkinson, Peyton Allen and Ellie DeKam, won first place, but then were later disqualified for cutting in too quick," WMC coach Beth Annema said.

"The girls fought so hard and it was back and forth the whole race. We thought we had won it, but later found out about the DQ. I’m so proud of these girls for battling and though the out come wasn’t what we thought, they still had grace and class and thanked our Heavenly Father for the gift of running and competition."

Other highlights of the night:

Kylie Luhring 2nd in the discuss
Shantele Wilkinson 3rd in long jump
Sarah VanderKooi 2nd in 800m
Josie Aardema 2nd in the 3200m
4x100 - Ellie DeKam, Shantele Wilkinson, Peyton Allen, Kaitlyn Summerfield- 6th
4x800 - Ellie DeKam, Sarah VanderKooi, Peyton Allen, Ema Davis - 5th

It was a great day for WMC track and field as the guys team finished 7th out of 13 teams at the GMAA City Track meet.

"The guys faced some serious competition as the City Meet is for all the schools in Muskegon County," WMC coach Josh Scholma said.  'In spite of being one of the smallest schools there, the guys really competed well.

"There were multiple personal records set today and some big time races.  It's exciting to see the guys continue to improve as we head into conference finals next week.

''Special recognition to Isaiah Visker who set the WMC freshmen record in the 300m Hurdles with a time of 45.43 and a 9th place finish to boot!''
